Description

The flames rose from the explosions, painting the night sky a reddish hue that clashed with the starless night sky. From a faraway cliff, Aang and Katara watched it in silence.

“That will show them,” the water bender whispered finally, fists balled tightly. Her brows were narrowed, and she bit her painted lip--and promptly grimaced at the taste of the face paint. She’d forgotten she was even wearing it.

Aang noticed the anger in her voice. While the thrill of their adventure was still rushing through him, he felt a pang of worry. “Hey,” he said, snapping her from her hard stare. “What did you want to do now?”

“Shouldn’t we get back before Sokka and Toph wake up?” She suddenly felt a little embarrassed. With one last glance at the burning building, she turned and tugged at her sleeve.

Shrugging, Aang began walking a little ways ahead of her. “But I’m not tired yet, and I feel like doing something. You know?”

It was true. She was still running on adrenaline, and with a sudden laugh, she ruffled his hair. “You want to do something? Like what?”

“Well--” He batted her hands away playfully (one of the few reasons he liked his new hair). “--how about… this?” Tapping her on the nose, he winked and began to jog off. It wasn’t a fast pace, but it was fast enough to keep ahead of her.

Katara watched him run, not sure what he meant. Hands on her hips, she watched his figure shrink into the distance. What was he up to…?

“Tag!” he yelled, stopping for a moment.

Suddenly, the night was filled with laughter as the two young benders ran and weaved through the rocks under the night sky. “Get back here!” Katara demanded, albeit through chuckles, as her hand missed his back. She pushed herself a little harder, but he always kept one step away.

He was loving this. It was a cool night, just right for a simple game of tag. Now, he just had to figure out when to let her get him. “Aww, com’on, Katara! I thought you were faster than this!”

“I can’t control the air,” she huffed. It was then that she noticed that they were nearing the murky water, and she smirked. “But… I can control something else!” With a quick hand wave, she brought a stream of water her way--right at her victim. The sneak attack caught him off guard and slowed him down enough to feel her hand grasp his shoulder.

“Tag, I believe!”

A laugh. “I will admit defeat! Oh, mighty Katara, you have tagged the Avatar.”

“What should I do with him, hmm?”

Aang pushed back a blush. She couldn’t mean what he wanted her to mean, and it was pointless to think otherwise. Grinning, he raised his hands, each finger wiggling slowly. “You could… let him tag you again!”

She let out a fake yelp and spun on her heels, bolting down a rocky path. “Never! I’ll not lose to you again!” Holding onto her hat, she looked back at him and smiled widely. He always knew exactly how to make her feel more at ease… happy.

And the game continued, well until the sun began to peek over the hills in the distance.

KATAANG WEEK 3!

I... don't think I'm going to be able to keep up this time. I work 40 hours this weekend. :shakefist: So I'll try my best to keep up?

I was... not creative with this prompt at all, hahaha. When I think 'mischief,' I think of 'BLOWING THINGS UP FOR GREAT JUSTICE.' Yeah... plus, I wanted to draw Katara as the Painted Lady some day. Not sure I like the poses or anything (dear self: learn to draw something more dramatic), but the hands look pretty good? AND BACKGROUNDS ARE FUN WHEN YOU'VE NO TIME.
